The Path of Humanity: Societal Innovation for the World of Tomorrow
(1071 pages, Society in Perspective series, Volume 5, Parthenon Publishers, Almere, the Netherlands, 2018). We follow – with ups and downs – an upward path from hunter-gatherers to our current late-modern society: the Path of Humanity. This book provides our path with a promising and precise recursive perspectivist foundation. The trend along this path is that we increasingly fulfil our needs through multi-actor cooperation and cohesion, and that this generally leads to a higher quality of society. But this comes with considerable risks, and the chance of a relapse is not insignificant. We are currently in a period of transition between late modernity and plurimodernity. It is up to us whether we take the next step upwards or whether we first fragment and regress. The book ends with a description of methods for societal innovation that can help us to successfully take further steps upwards along our path.
